If you're using AOL for Windows, disable the "Compress Graphics" option.

Try to get your monitor to show more than 256 colors.

Minimize the number of buttons and other geegaws in your browser to save screen space.

Your browser will have to support "animated gifs" (most do) to show some of the images completely. Disable any pref that turns animated gifs off.
